The tide can move very quickly, please make sure that you’ve checked tide times before you set off for adventures. There have been some cases of walkers getting stuck in the clay around Forelands beach at Bembridge this year - please do take care when you’re walking on newly exposed sand.
Seagrove Bay – we are spoiled at Gull House with a beautiful sandy beach just minutes away from our house. Seagrove bay is great for people watching, beach games and swimming alike. It’s very tidal and the sandy beach disappears entirely at high tide. At low tide you can walk around to our favourite beach on the island, Priory Bay. Walk through the rocks away from Seaview, or at high tide, follow the wooden steps up into Priory Woods and back down again onto the beach.
St Helens Beach - 10 minutes drive away and good for a day out. A mixture of sand and shingle and backed by a promenade and dunes. There is a café and public loos (both seasonal) on the beach and parking at the National Trust Car Park.
Ryde through to Appley – a popular beach with miles of golden sand and beautiful views over the solent. Deckchairs and deckchairs available to hire and water sports (especially kite surfing) to the Eastern End. Visit the area around the pier for the indoor/ outdoor swimming pool, ie rink and arcade. Cafes and Restaurants along the whole strip. Paid for parking is available along the Promenade or in one of the car parks in Ryde.
Forelands to Lane End Beach - The tide goes out for miles at low tide, revealing rocky outcrops and sandy pools for rockpooling. The Beach Hut at Forelands is open seasonally and there is usually a van selling teas and coffees at Lane End Beach, again open seasonally. At low tide, you can walk all the way from Forelands to Lane End Beach where you’ll be rewarded with a great view if the Lifeboat Station. There’s a café, loos and the Lifeboat Shop at Lane End Beach as well as a car park.
Steephill Cove – an Enid Blyton-esque cove with a sandy beach, deckchairs and clear swimming water. There’s a café at the back of the cove and a couple of restaurants. This beach is only accessible by foot so park at Ventor and follow signs along the coast path.
Colwell Bay – a picturesque beach on West Wight. A popular beach with families there are public toilets, restaurants and a beach shop.
